Trip to the Opera House

Yesterday we brought visitors from Bolivia to see the Opera House in Oslo. Designed by Snøhetta architects, and opened in 2008, the place is quite amazing.

I love the fact that you can walk all over the roof of the building, and that it is used and appreciated by so many people. The architects describe this as “togetherness, joint ownership, easy and open access for all”, and that this is achieved by “laying out a “carpet” of horizontal and sloping surfaces on top of the building”.

The exterior of restrooms in the opera (above), “The Other Wall”  is an installation by the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.
